Pet Peeves

WRITTEN July 1, 2016 Author: Rich Atkins

Does it bother you when people butcher the English Language, or make mistakes that could be avoided?

For example:

  • Do you find it irksome that the United States calls their end-of-season Major League baseball game The World Series, when only two countries are involved?
  • Or is it annoying when people call Independence Day the Fourth of July (but they probably wouldn’t refer to New Year’s Day with the name “January First”)?
  • How about when people use gender-biased terms for the wrong gender, For instance, when Pam on The Office would say that she wanted to be a “salesman.” Yes, she really said that!
